At ENGIE, we are committed to upholding the highest standards in the implementation of our renewable projects. The SET label, launched in May 2022, reflects ENGIE’s global approach to ensure its renewable energy projects meet the highest standards of sustainability and community integration. This milestone highlights ENGIE’s focus on developing its portfolio of solar, wind and hybrid renewable projects, reinforcing its commitment to clean energy and strengthening its position in India’s sustainable energy landscape.
In December 2024, we received Sustainable Energy Transition certification by Bureau Veritas demonstrating our dedication to sustainable energy practices and advancing the goals of a Just energy transition.
This certification by Veritas, provides a stringent framework for renewable energy projects to adhere to the highest standards of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) excellence. ENGIE’s projects reflect biodiversity conservation efforts, including safeguarding vulnerable species and ecosystems near project sites, while promoting transparent accountability processes to strengthen partnerships with local communities. Through strategic ESG-driven operations, ENGIE ensures sustainable investments and operational efficiency across all phases of project execution.

Renewable projects represent a crucial solution in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, offering tangible pathways toward sustainability. To ensure accurate accounting and methodologies for calculating these emissions reductions, ENGIE has collaborated with ENGIE Impact to develop a well-defined methodology called Declic. This rigorous approach ensures that the avoided emissions from our renewable projects are accurately measured and accounted for, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and accountability in combating climate change.

ENGIE India’s Commitment to Empowering Youth through skill development and job opportunities
ENGIE in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation of India (NSDC), embarked on a significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in 2022 aimed at training and upskilling 600 young individuals as solar module technicians.
This year, the culmination of these efforts saw approximately 450 students successfully placed in various roles within the renewable energy sector. To celebrate this achievement and provide further opportunities, ENGIE organized a Felicitation Ceremony and job fair in collaboration with industry partners like Sterling and Wilson and Mahindra Teqo. During the ceremony, certificates were awarded to graduates of the solar module technician program, offering them a gateway to employment in nearby locations.
With 17 projects across India, ENGIE ensures that 80% of its workforce comprises local residents, demonstrating a holistic approach to community empowerment and sustainable development.
Here are some of the initiatives that we undertake:
- Installation of RO system
- Aligned with SDG 6: Water filtration devices were installed in Tamil Nadu that provide 50 litres of clean drinking water to the people
- Installation of solar LED streetlights
- Aligned with SDG 7: To improve the quality of life in the rural community of Telangana, ENGIE installed solar-powered lights on village roads
- Tree plantation – Aligned with SDG 15: 500 tree saplings were planted on all solar sites across India. This will offset 10,885Kg CO2 emissions annually
- School infrastructure support – Aligned with SDG 4: Supported 8 low-income primary schools with desks, benches, tube lights, cupboards, ceiling lights, fans, and water purifiers
- Covid care support – Aligned with SDG 3: The HSE team took multiple sessions to create awareness about the Covid-19 virus. ENGIE distributed ration packs in villages, and PPE kits and other covid care kits to local medical centres in Tamil Nadu
